Lena's story

I joined the Al-Maktoum College back in 2018, studying Arabic Language. I begin with the Introductory Certificate and continued my studies with the College all the way up to a Diploma in Arabic Language. I come from a  Scottish/Syrian background.

There was an amazing atmosphere in class, especially during my first year of study. Lecturers are extremely professional and push you to get the most out of the courses. I also formed a very close friendship with my peers.

Tell us about your experience studying with Al-Maktoum College

I began my studies with Al-Maktoum College back in 2018, after leaving school.

I decided to study at Al-Maktoum College for three main reasons. Firstly, I liked that the College is smaller than other local institutions. It made me feel more comfortable and supported and gave me the chance to get to know all the staff members and students across different courses. The building is also in a very nice location in Dundee, close to the city centre. Finally, I had heard alot about its courses and had seen the College advertised around Dundee.

What was your favourite part of the course?

I thoroughly enjoyed my classes and it felt like there was something new every day. I really appreciated the effort from lecturers to help us use the Arabic language and develop our skills, especially in speaking. I can now hold conversations in Arabic and enjoy using the language with friends and family. In fact, I’d like to continue studying at the College if possible.

Do you have any fond memories/experiences from your time at the College that you would like to share?

Do you have any advice for prospective students?

For prospective students, be sure to take the opportunity to study at the Al-Maktoum College. It gives you more than just a qualification. The lecturers are extremely professional, supportive and encouraging. They push to get the most out of the course and go beyond to help.
