Dr. Laith Al-Jobouri

Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and University Lead for Digital
Transformation and Emergent Technologies at Abertay University

Dr. Laith Al-Jobouri is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and University Lead for Digital
Transformation and Emergent Technologies at Abertay University, where he also serves
on the University Senate. He is the Network Capability Lead for the CoSTAR – National
Lab, a £53 million AHRC-funded initiative, and an Expert for the Expert Working Group for
the UK Telecoms Innovation Network (UKTIN). Since 2023, Dr. Al-Jobouri has been the
elected President of the Al-Kindi Society of Engineers (London). He is a director for none
profit organisation which won the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) in 2023,
which is the highest honour for volunteer groups in the UK, which is equivalent to MBE for
volunteer groups.

With over 24 years of experience spanning academia and industry, Dr. Al-Jobouri has held
leadership roles in research and development, and large-scale technology projects. His
career began in wireless communication R&D with industry, where he worked with
different companies including Siemens Telecommunications as Country Project
Manager and Technical Lead for major mobile infrastructure deployments. After earning
his Ph.D. and completing postdoctoral research in Electronic Systems Engineering, he
transitioned to UK Higher Education, where he has driven innovation in digital
transformation and emergent technologies.

Dr. Al-Jobouri’s research focuses on 5G and 6G technologies, IoT, cybersecurity, mixed
reality, virtual production, IoT, AI and UAVs. He has published over 65 papers, founded
and chaired 17 IEEE international conferences, and serves as Editor and Guest Editor for
multiple journals. He also served as external evaluator for MSc and undergraduate
degrees. His contributions have earned him national and international awards.
