Scottish Justice Secretary meets with Al-Maktoum College ATP students

Overseas students from Al-Maktoum College were pleased to meet with Scotland’s Secretary of Justice, Humza Yousaf, in Edinburgh last week.

As representatives from 13 different educational institutions based within the UAE, Egypt and Malaysia, the students are currently taking part in the Al-Maktoum College Academic Training Programme based in Dundee.

Mr Yousaf said “It is a real pleasure to welcome students from Al-Maktoum College here today. I hope you have a really good time in Scotland”.

“I’m sure you will really enjoy being in Dundee especially. It’s a beautiful city and one that I am very familiar with myself.”

Mr Yousaf brought his talk to an end with: “It’s always a great pleasure meeting with you all. Thank you for your time and incisive questions. Best of luck and enjoy the rest of your time at Al-Maktoum College.”

Acting Head of College, Dr Abi Abubaker, extended his thanks to Mr Yousaf: “It is a pleasure to have Mr Yousaf here with us today. He is a great friend of the College and we are grateful for him taking time out of his busy schedule to welcome our groups of students to Scotland.”

Dr Abubaker went on to say, “He gave a most encouraging and informative session for the students, who were clearly well engaged and keen to ask questions”.

“Mr Yousaf’s continuous support for the College and its programmes is something we are extremely grateful for, and we look forward to meeting with him again in the near future.”

During the visit to Edinburgh, the students also received talks from Scottish Parliament Education Services and took part in a live broadcast viewing of the First Ministers Questions, in Holyrood Hotel.

Over the course of the next 3 weeks, they will visit a number of Scottish attractions as well as attend lectures, seminars and debates within the College.

One student from American University of Sharjah said: “I am really enjoying my experience so far. The people in Scotland are so friendly. I’ve travelled to a number of places within the UK, but this is my first time here, and you truly have to experience it to believe the kindness of the people.”
