The latest Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education Open Lecture this week (Thursday, March 12 at the College Campus) focuses on a new Muslim community at the beginning of Islam.
Dr Dirk Hartwig, Marie Curie Fellow at the Department of Modern Languages at the University of St. Andrews, will discuss the theological negotiations already established in the Arabian Peninsula.
He will also examine how and why this new community is called a “middle/moderate nation.” He will further talk about how the Qur’an should be acknowledged as a theologically challenging text as the result of an initial religious revelation, which is subject to human development.
Dr Hartwig, whose interests include Rabbinic Literature, Arabic Literature and Philosophy, Sufism, Jewish Mysticism and Philosophy, has titled his lecture: “Negotiating Covenant, Prophethood and Redemption in the Qur’an.”
Principal and Vice Chancellor at Al-Maktoum College, Dr Hossein Godazgar, said:

The current College series of Open Lectures – this is the sixth – has attracted eminent speakers from all over the world.
