From a galaxy far, far away!

We don’t reckon Oscars or BAFTAS will be coming our way any time soon.

But Al-Maktoum College can now reveal its short video for the Penguin Parade, the special artistic project to help raise funds for Maggie’s Centre Dundee.

Our penguin sculpture has a Star Wars theme so that is reflected in our video, shot on location at our Blackness Road campus, with Darth Vader’s grandson making a lightsaber-wielding cameo appearance.

Our Star Wars Jedi penguin, designed by Kiwi artist, Mandi Pope, will be in a parade of individually decorated penguins that will feature on the streets of Dundee and surrounding area for three months this summer from June 29.

“It was fun making the short video with the daft Star Wars ending and we hope it will prove popular and amuse people,” said Linda Gibson, recruitment and marketing officer at the College.

“We are delighted to be involved in this great campaign for Maggie’s Centre and we are looking forward to our penguin taking its place in the parade.”

Maggie’s Centre Dundee, in partnership with Wild in Art, developed the penguin parade, which is being backed by local sponsors and 100 smaller penguins are going to all local schools and community groups

The aim is to raise significant funds to support Maggie’s vital work in caring for local people affected by cancer and to raise awareness.
