Effective managers are essential to the success of any business in today’s competitive economy. The HNC and Diploma in Management and Leadership are for existing managers or people aspiring to management positions.

The HNC and Diploma in Management and Leadership are recognised qualifications that are understood and respected by employers across many industry sectors. They develop a range of operational management and leadership competencies that are required by those engaged in or aspiring to, managerial positions.

Successful completion of year 1 (HNC) will allow you to progress onto the Diploma. Alternatively, students may choose to apply to university to continue studies at degree level. Entry Requirements

Year 1 (HNC)  

  • 2 Highers or equivalent and National 5 Maths or equivalent
  • Relevant National Qualifications or National Qualification Group Awards at SCQF level 5 or 6
  • Applicants with no formal qualifications are encouraged to apply



Year 2 (Diploma)  

  • Successful completion of HNC Management & Leadership and 2 Highers or equivalent
  • Relevant work experience
  • Applicants with no formal qualifications are encouraged to apply



English Language requirements

  • GCSE English grade C or new grades 4-9
  • Standard Grade grades 1-3
  • National 5 grades A-C
  • IELTS 6.0 (Minimum of 5.5 in each part and 6.0 in writing)

Course Aims

  • Develop candidates knowledge and skills required for employment in a Management environment
  • Enable progression within the SCQF framework
  • Enable a sound articulation route to the Diploma in Management and Leadership and higher education
  • Prepare candidates for progression to further studies in Management or related subjects
  • Develop transferable skills to meet the requirements of employers

Students can choose whether to study Full-time or Part-time (daytime, evening and/or weekends), and will be taught through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, case studies, group work, projects and Virtual Learning Environments.

Students will be assessed using continuous assessment and exams throughout the duration of the course.


The HNC/Diploma may enhance your career by developing skills such as critical analysis, networking, team-building, communication skills, problem-solving, negotiation and influencing skills and written and oral presentation skills.
